Major Introduction : The Communication Engineering
The Communication Engineering Program of Beijing Jiaotong University has a history over 100 years. It grew out of Beijing Railway Management Institute founded by the Qing Dynasty in 1896 .Telecommunication and Signaling Engineering Department was founded in 1949 and renamed Railway Telecommunication and Signaling Engineering Department in 1961 which included three specialties: railway wired communication, railway wireless communication and railway signaling. It was renamed Communication and Control Engineering Department in 1985, including three specialties: wired communication, wireless communication and railway signaling. The School of Electronic and Information Engineering was established in 1999, including information and communication engineering. The wired communication and wireless communication were merged and their admission was in accordance with the Communication Engineering Program. The Communication Engineering was approved to become one of the Characteristic Specialties of the Ministry of Education in 2007, passing the field expert assessment of International IEEE professional certification in 2011and became a national-level Pilot Program for Comprehensive Reform in 2013. The Communication Engineering Program of our university aims to meet the dual requirements of public and railway communication and cultivate talents majoring in telecommunication.
In Communication Engineering Program, there are now 99 teachers and professors, with 68 percent of whom are under the age of 45, 83 percent of whom have doctor’s degree, and 78 percent of whom have senior titles and 95 percent of whom have enterprise or practical engineering experiences.
The annual admission is about 200. The number of transferring students is about 70 and the undergraduates are about 1,100.
Our program is supported by two national key secondary disciplines, including “Communication and Information System” and “Signal and Information Processing” The teaching platform for the undergraduates include the National Electrical and Electronic Teaching Base, National Electric and Electronic Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, National Electronic Information and Computer Experiment Teaching Center, National Railway Communication and Virtual Control Simulation Center, and BJTU-ZTC Experimental Center of Communication Engineering.
There are also high-level teaching and research platform supporting the communication engineering Program teaching, including Next Generation Internet Interconnection Devices (National Engineering Laboratory, All-Optical Network and Modern Communication Network (Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education) and Electro Magnetic Compatibility ( National Verified Laboratory).
This program establishes joint cultivation and academic exchanges with over 10 universities, such as the University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, Illinois Institute of Technology, Engineering School of Lyon, the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology and more than ten universities.
